The delivery of basic health care services to the general public should be one of the primary concerns of any city. Tagaytay City has clearly understood these kinds of needs as it continues to provide excellent medical care facilities and services, nutritional programs and promotional efforts regarding health in Tagaytay.
In 1997, the city established its primary hospital, the Ospital ng Tagaytay to render health services for the local residents, most especially the underprivileged ones. To better improve its services and to accommodate the increasing number of patients, the city government constructed another building for expansion to cater to more hospital beds. This strategic move also made the hospital comply with the minimum requirement of the Department of Health to upgrade a hospital from primary to secondary.
Aside from the Ospital ng Tagaytay, the Tagaytay Hospital and Medical Center is a state-of-the-art private tertiary hospital that caters to the needs of not only residents of Tagaytay but the neighboring towns and tourists of the city as well. This hospital is located in Baranggay Silang Crossing East near the Tagaytay Rotunda, which is equipped to efficiently deal with any medical emergencies and medical procedures.
Both private and government hospitals provide the same standard of healthcare to their patients with difference only in medical facilities and in-patient accommodations. Both hospitals are staffed with qualified medical practitioners that converse well in English. Physicians are usually graduates from the top medical schools in the country with some who have had their training abroad. Nurses in Tagaytay are also products of many creditable nursing schools that are dependable and well-trained.
The City Health Office that deal with minor cases of medical and dental services are open during weekdays to cater to local residents. All 34 baranggays have their respective Baranggay Health Centers as well. These health centers go under the direct supervision of the City Health Office and are personally assisted by Baranggay Health Workers and Purok Social Workers. Non-government organizations and private institutions such as Project Health and the Augustinian Sisters also lend in a hand in providing medical services as well.
As of today, Tagaytay City boasts of having 1 City Health Center, 34 Baranggay Health Centers, 2 well-equipped hospitals, 9 medical clinics, 9 dental clinics and 10 drugstores that all meet the heath and medical needs of the locals and tourists. The city has 39 licensed physicians, 11 dentists, 76 nurses and dozens of Baranggay health workers that are more than willing to help anyone in need of medical attention.
More than Tagaytay’s health care centers, the city boasts of having a malnutrition rate of below 1% from 1998 to 2009. The city has received several Nutritional Awards both from the regional and national level as a concrete manifestation of the city’s successful nutrition program efforts.
