The Mushroom Burger found in Tagaytay City is just about as famous as the city itself. Visitors of the breezy city can’t help but drop by the restaurant to taste the yummy yet healthy burgers made up of mushrooms. It’s a refreshing variation in taste and ingredients compared to the usually all-beef burgers we are so used to eating.
The company started its business of growing mushrooms back in 1976 at a small farm in Caloocan City. With acquired technology from Taiwan, the company initially started supplying to major hotels and restaurants around Metro Manila. With the fortunate need to expand, the company moved its mushroom farm to Tagaytay City by 1978 where they sold mushrooms directly to the public.
The company produced four different types of mushrooms, the Abalone Mushrooms, the Oyster Mushrooms, the Wooden Ear and the Shiitake Mushrooms. By the early 1980s, a buying customer remarked that mushrooms were more expensive than beef from where he came from. The customer then suggested making burgers out of mushrooms. On that same day, the first mushroom burger was created. That same customer was apparently a Swiss Executive Chef working in one of the luxurious hotels in Manila. Upon writing down the recipe and tasting his work, he declared it to be the best burger he had ever tasted. The first burger made up of mushrooms was sold on November 1, 1980. Through the years, the company added several varieties to their famed burgers by adding cheese, tuna, omelets and even double patty burgers that we know of their menu today.
By the 1990s, the company introduced rice meals like Mushroom Delight, Mushroom Beef and Pancit Canton Delight. They even added meat dishes for those carnivores that can’t go about a meal without any meat. By 2004, customers didn’t need to travel all the way to Tagaytay to taste their tasty burgers as the company opened a second branch located along West Avenue in Quezon City. Up until recently, they opened their third branch along Katipunan Avenue also in Quezon City.
