Collette’s Buko Pie and Pasalubong is a food manufacturing and retail business that provides the best-tasting varieties of pies, rice cakes and pastries with buko (coconut) pies as their banner product. They also sell favorite native delicacies and confectionaries sourced from a mixture of suppliers. This gift delicacy shop is a popular favorite in Tagaytay as it has become synonymous to pasalubong-giving when coming from Tagaytay. The pasalubong is the Filipino equivalent of the souvenir or travel gift. Filipinos are all about pasalubongs since they love to get presents from people arriving from a trip. People instantly recognize where you came from with the familiar name and logo of this Tagaytay store.
In 1989, Plaridel dela Cruz and his wife, Regina Bulatao-dela Cruz were determined to venture into a different business as the previously family-managed business didn’t turn out as successful as they imagined it would. Their daughter, Collette, was still in secondary school at UP Los Banos at the time. Their constant visits to check on their daughter in Los Banos introduced Ms. dela Cruz to the palatable taste of buko pies. Realizing the potential of a buko pie business in San Pablo where buko pies were rare at the time, Atty. Dela Cruz persuaded her husband into venturing into a buko pie business. The couple started searching for somebody from Los Banos who knew the secrets to buko pie making. They then stumbled upon a knowledgeable buko pie maker who was eager to teach the couple for a fee. From the moment they began making their first batch of pies, which sold for 19 pesos apiece, they were instantly a hit with their customers. Although Mr. dela Cruz wanted to produce pan de sal alongside their pies, it was their pies that apparently captured the market. From their initial production rate of 20 pies a day, production shot up to at least 50 pies a day in the next few days of opening.
By 1994, the modest couple was confident enough to open another branch. It was during this year that they opened their first branch in Tagaytay. They soon found an untapped market of buko pie-loving people in the cool city. The opening of the rest of their branches followed soon enough.
Today, Collette’s has over 45 stores nationwide with a good mix of branches, franchises and outlets. The once humble buko pie store continues to expand in the provinces in order to meet the demand of customers for a reliable and delectable source of pasalubongs or yummy gift items.
Aside from their famous buko pies, the store also offers Ube Macapuno Pies, Buko-Pandan Pies, Pineapples Pies, Buko-Langka Pies, and Bibingka Classic. Their list of pastries includes Chocolate Crinkles, Ube Crinkles, Butterscotch Bars, Coconut Macaroons and Rocky Road Bars. Other delectable delights include Pastillas de Leche, Broas Espasol, Yema, Sampaloc Candies, Meringue, Pili Candies and Okoy.
With a selection of great quality pies and confectionaries at reasonable prices, Collette’s continues to be recognized as the premium brand of buko pies in the country. Don’t forget to stop by this famed store and grab some of its delectable staples to share with your family and friends back home.
